I look forward to it. Unfortunately, I depend on more than a handful of plug-ins, some a bit obscure, so I'll probably have to wait about a year until they all get updated, those lazy open-source developers. |

Even though that still says its not done, apparently it is because mozilla.com has it released and the download counter site (currently broken) has been counting. _________________ UMG UT3 Warfare and vCTF Admin

Most addons can be made to work by simply setting the "maxVersion" value in the xpi file. (Make sure to backup your profile folder just to be safe.)
If that does not work, remove the extension and find another that does the same thing
Steps to use an extension you like which has not been updated for a new firefox version:
1)rename the xpi file to zip (or associate .xpi with your zip program)
2)open the zip file with 7zip/winzip/other
3)edit the install.rdf file with any text editor, change the maxVersion to 3.1, save it (back in the archive)

<em:minVersion>3.0b3</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>3.0b5pre</em:maxVersion>
</Description>
</em:targetApplication> |
4) rename the file back to .xpi (ctrl-z/undo does it too). drag the xpi file into firefox to install it. |

| Well, that would fool Firefox into installing a given plug-in/extension, but I don't see how that would make it compatible or necessarily functional, unless, of course, Firefox 3's extension related classes have been specifically designed to 100% backwards compatible. |

| It doesn't make it functional, just lets it get installed. More often than not, the extension is simply rejected by the firefox 'extension version Checking" mechanism that solely relies on the maxVersion value. Version checking can be disabled entirely, but thats not recommended. |

I can't see how. The installer file version, build number, hash, and installer file size are EXACT matches of RC3, not to mention that the 2 mirrors + FTP that I'm monitoring (one mirror of which is what Mozilla is using for the main download link), as of right now, still have the RC3 installer that was uploaded 6 days ago. Mozilla has succeeded in starting a world record under false pretenses, bravo. _________________

No kidding. This is how mine is ATM:

Err........ that's great and all, but even though I noticed there's a different mirror, it has the same thing as the others:
It's supposed to be 7.8MB on top of everything. _________________

The official download 3.0 setup file (US-en) is 7.14MB (7496920 bytes)
Heres my SS (RC2): |

I also noticed the MD5SUM is identical.
That's not what I meant. The main page says it's supposed to be 7.8MB, yet the file is 7.14MB.
EDIT: OK, MozillaZine forums cleared it up. Mozilla basically slapped a new name on RC3 and re-released it as Firefox 3 final without changing anything. It's the exact same thing as RC2 (RC3 for macs), Mozilla just didn't have the common sense to change the checksum, hash, or build number. _________________

Thanks for asking! Not for the expected reason, but because you made me look.
It appears that the obscure plug-ins I was worried about I don't even have installed at the moment, so they must not be that important to me, eh?
Currently, this is all I have installed (nothing very interesting I'm afraid to say):

Well, I tried, but their site wouldn't let me. After a couple of clicks to the actual download, I just get a blank page stating, "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable." Bummer.
Update: Never mind. I tried again, and now I have it downloaded. I guess setting world records strains the system and causes temporary glitches. |
