The relentless terror DM server has a bunch of custom maps and they all download and work fine for me, at good speed as well.

I am going to hold off on adding maps to DM and vCTF until everything with the custom maps is set on TDM.

Lego was removed due to poor PC performance, since there is a lot of physics on the map.

Too bad, Lego performs good on my main PC and my crappy backup PC, which is just a 2.4GHz opteron 146, 1gb RAM and an x1300pro.

lego is fine when its only you, the netcode + physics + people... just isnt happening... glad its gone.

the map gael-classic i believe is what its called needs to go... only good with a few people... not meant for TDM

Ok never mind I found it. I played on Tempest3 and the map downloaded VERY fast for me, about 10% for each progress indication. The server was pretty much full when it was voted. When the map loaded however, only 6 people managed to show up. I don't know if the rest got disconnected or what, but the redirect was extremely fast for me.

I think it might have something to do with it being necessary for the clients to have the 1.2 patch as well.

Epic should really disable online play for those that don't, and have a very clear message that they need to get the 1.2 patch and include links to download it.

i get about 450-500kb/s from the server when it pushes a download to me.

Just in case this is an issue for anyone, there is a workaround for this problem: Just install all maps into your "My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomMaps" folder and you're good.

Ello, I'm new to these boards, but I've been playing on the server for a few weeks. I see this thread has been opened for a while but I'm yet to see any custom maps added. What's the hold up? Sad. I love custom maps but all the servers out there with custom maps are empty. This si the only sever that has anyone playing on it. A nice map pack would work. and then if people won't/can't dl direct from the server. they can dl from here. or another hosted site.

I mean't the TDM server. Don't know about other servers

There is a problem with custom maps. When customs are on a server, sometimes up to half the people loading the map will receive an error "A_Vehicle_Manta package not found" (where Manta can be any vehicle or other things). After you get that error, you can no longer even enter the server, even if it's on a stock map, until you clear your UT3 cache. Custom maps are currently the bane of servers. If you want to empty a server fast, just load up a custom map.

Epic is supposed to fix this problem in the 1.3 patch. In the mean time, there is an experimental fix called UT3Fixer. Read more about it here: http://zerofrag.com/index.php?topic=454.0. It seems to work as far as I can tell, and it even shuffles the teams at the start of each map (an unintended side effect).

Weird never had that problem b4. and I play mostly custom maps on servers. But then again I dl the maps before hand. I know there has been issues with custom maps and server conenction. the most I get is connection failed. then I ahve to reconnect to the server. and yes it is annoying. but that is about it. Knowing epic though. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to fix anything. shiit if we even get a patch 1.3 I would be really surprised. I don't think they will release any more patches, but that is just me. I could be wrong.

Hey all. After being being a huge fan of UMG's Warfare and VCTF servers (particularly VCTF) for the past few months, I thought I'd finally join the forums.

Like others, I've been longing for some custom maps on the server, but have noticed that there really isn't that much quality content out there for VCTF. Fortunately, however, with the conclusion of Epic's "Phase 1: Make Something Unreal" Contest, that has changed.

7 new VCTF maps were entered into the contest. You can find the combined download and screenshots for them here:

Naturally, you could also download them individually from Epic's Make Something Unreal website

I've personally analyzed each of them and wrote up a quick review for each here:

Out the the submitted maps, I feel that VCTF-Megastructure, VCTF-OffTheRails, and VCTF-CanalWarfare would all make excellent additions to UMG's VCTF rotation.

In particular, VCTF-Megastructure is a must-have. It's already won second-place in the DevMods map-making contest and is a shoe-in for 1st place in MSU's VCTF category. If someone were to start playing UT3 today, they would find this map completely indistinguishable from the stock maps. (though it's much better than VCTF-Containment and VCTF-Corruption).
