I'm going to give this a try. I'll let you know how it works out.
Saves about 45% on the cost of a new cartridge, but not sure if it's going to work.

I OWN.
Printer ink refill successful! Just a quick review of my experience. For the record this was a Q6000A cartridge for an HP2600n laserjet. It's not one of the little ones--it's about a foot long.
Retail cost of cartridge: $76
Cost of refill kit including shipping: $46 (can get for $25 if I buy a set)
Total savings: $30, 39%
Total potential savings: $51, 67%
Key point: You have to make your own holes in the plastic print cartridges. Two of them--one to empty the waste ink hopper, and one to refill with new toner. This was by far the hardest part, and proved to be a bit of a pain. You can't drill holes because it will leave little bits of plastic in the cartridge. They have a "hole-making tool" that you can get for about $10 but I didn't have one. My first try was with a razor blade but the plastic was too thick. So I broke out my little hobby soldering iron. This went through the plastic like a hot knife through butter! The first hole was a bit of a hack job, but the second was much neater. If you're going to do this you really need the hole making tool.
The rest was pretty easy. Just a couple of notes:
1. There a surprising amount of waste ink left in the cartridge.
2. I needed to install a new firmware chip that gives the cartridge status. It installed easily, and works fine, despite having manhandled it a bit.
3. The holes you make must be resealed tightly. The ink is a very fine dust and escapes through the tiniest of holes.

ty for the tip MLK! It helped a lot. I had big sheets of newspaper out and hardly made any mess at all
