I posted this in the UT3 forum before realizing it should be in here.
It has been almost two weeks and the bonus pack maps aren't on your dm server. As one of your server's regulars this greatly dissappoints me lol. Is there a specific reason for this? I know the new maps aren't great but it is always nice to have more selection.
PS What tic rate does your dm server run out just out of curiousity. It seems smoother than most. |

| If you UMG owners/admins/etc want people that play on your servers to come to the forums and be active in the community the least you could do is answer simple questions like this. Not sure why I bothered registering now. |

| There was only one DM map in the pack that Epic released and it's a small map that likely wouldn't work well with the numbers on the DM server... |

| oh yeah I see there is only one now. I thought there was two. Well the new map is no smaller than Biohazard, Morbias is the name I think. |

You need to understand that Epic released a very bad, unstable piece of software called Unreal Tournament 3. CLEARLY made for the console it's not exactly cut and dry when it comes to installing maps, setting a redirect, dealing with compression and so on. That stuff takes a lot of time and effort and as far as I know only ONE person deals with ALL of the servers personally, Bob. There is no issue with people not playing on any of the servers so I'm not sure why that was even said, but considering the severe lack of player numbers in the game already then those playing will only go where the populated servers are.
There are hundreds of servers and only a handful of players and from the looks of it UMG servers aren't hurting for players. When Epic decides to get off their asses and fix the issue of compression and redirection then maybe it would be easier to add maps and various mods. Hell, maybe it's fixed NOW (by the community or other) and Bob hasn't gotten to it, we don't know. I'm sure he's considering putting new maps and new mods on some of his servers, but when he sees fit he will do so. In time. |

yeah I know the UMG UT3 DM server is perhaps the most popular DM server there is (in this country anyway). I just figured someone in the know would have answered my question, because on the server there is an ad asking people to come be a part of the forums but then when they do it seems kind of dead around here.
I still don't understand why UT3 isn't more popular. Right now almost midnight on a Fri there are about 300 people total playing UT3, UT2K4 has 4000 people. The game isn't that bad, the interface sucks yeah but I like the gameplay as much as the other UTs both of which I played A LOT. Maybe it goes better for me than most though because I have a pc with the latest and greatest hardware but so do many first person shooter fans.
I had thought about starting a server similar to UMG myself, I am pretty good with computers and used to configure servers for a couple other games fine but so far looks like it would be a waste of money unless the game becomes more popular over time. |

| I think a lot of people were turned off by the beta. After the beta and word of mouth that the retail game was just like the beta (nothing fixed whatsoever) then nobody cared and clearly saw Epic screwed over their "bead and butter". |

I think its clear that Epic is now focusing on making engines to be licensed out, and new franchise games of their own. (GoW anyone?) UT3 is now an afterthought. I mean it came out like a year after the new unreal engine came out. Afterthought.
UT3 had a terrible beta that was never really fixed (betas/demos should be an ongoing source of new players for retail, but UT3s beta is still screwed up). It had absolutely no hype when it launched, STILL has an assy UI, a bunch of weird bugs which all equal a ridiculously low player base. Which also probably prevents people from buying the game because they think no one plays it.

lol it sucks too because I really like UT3, but it never had a chance |
